Beta Rho Chapter Initiation 2013
- The 2013 initiation ceremony for Sigma Delta Pi will take place on Wednesday, February 27 at 4 pm in 210 Pugh Hall
- THE DEADLINE FOR MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION IS FEBRUARY 3, 2013.
If you are interested in becoming a member of Sigma Delta Pi, please follow these steps:
READ THE FOLLOWING LIST OF MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS:
Active membership shall be limited to college students who have demonstrated high scholarship in general and excellence in the academic study of Spanish. Specifically, they must meet the following requirements:
- Graduate Students please follow instructions in red below.
- Each applicant must have completed a minimum of two 3000-level courses in Hispanic literature, linguistics, or culture and civilization. On-line classes are not currently counted toward eligibility. A student may be admitted to active membership while still enrolled in the second 3000-level course if all other requirements have been met and if the instructor of the course certifies that the student’s work is of “B” or “A” quality. The candidate for active membership must have a minimal grade point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale in all Spanish courses taken.
- The candidate must have an overall grade point average of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale, and must have completed at least three semesters of college work.
- If accepted, in order to become a member, you MUST attend the initiation ceremony.
- Sigma Delta Pi does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, sex, age, or disability.
If you meet the above requirements, please download your “Unofficial UF Transcript” from ISIS and highlight the following information
- all of the Spanish courses that you have taken at UF;
- the name of the instructor of each course (attach a separate sheet if this information does not appear);
- your name, email address and academic classification (for example, 3LS);
- your current overall GPA.
Any information that does not appear on the Unofficial UF Transcript, such as professor’s name or your email address, please write or type neatly on a separate piece of paper.
There is a one-time initiation fee of $35, payable by CHECK ONLY (made payable to Shifra Armon), which must be received no later than February 3, 2013.
- In the event that the application is denied, the check will be voided or returned at the applicant’s discretion.
- If you are admitted, the fee will be applied to the purchase of initiation ceremony materials. Therefore it cannot be refunded. Before applying, make sure you can attend the initiation ceremony on Wednesday, February 27 at 4 pm
Undergraduate Application Packet
Place the $35 check, your highlighted Unofficial Transcript and accompanying material in an envelope addressed to Shifra Armon, and leave it in the box located BELOW the name “ARMON” at the Department of Spanish and Portuguese Studies, 170 Dauer Hall on or before February 3.
The 2013 initiation ceremony, which is required for membership, will be held in 210 Pugh Hall at 4 pm on Wednesday, February 27. The ceremony will begin promptly, please arrive by 3:50.
Dress is business casual. Seating is limited at the ceremony; please consult with Dr. Armon before inviting guests.

Graduate Students
Graduate students who have been unconditionally admitted to SPS are eligible to apply in their second year of study.
To apply, notify Dr. Armon of your interest and leave your one-time initiation fee check for $35 (payable to Shifra Armon) in her mailbox by February 3.
The 2013 initiation ceremony completes the process. Please make sure you are available for the initiation ceremony (Wednesday, February 27 at 4 pm) before submitting your check because the funds will be spent immediately on initiation materials and cannot be refunded.

If you were initiated as an undergraduate, your membership is still valid. It is unnecessary to reapply; just let Dr. Armon know so she can add your name for Chapter events and announcements.
